Medical Imaging Errors
Reducing Medical Imaging Errors by Pairing Photography
Patient mislabeling and misidentification in the realm of medical imaging can result in serious consequences such as incorrect diagnosis, wrong treatment, and erroneous reporting in clinical studies. This system pairs patient photos with x-rays or other medical images at point-of-care using Android-based software in order to verify the identity of the patient, then both images are archived as a single record and sent to the PACS for storage and retrieval as part as the patient's electronic medical records. This method minimizes the chance that a radiologist will read and interpret a mislabeled or misidentified image from the wrong patient at any point in evaluation and treatment. The system decreases the chance of human error during image collection and archiving, decreases the time spent by radiologists to interpret images, and increases the radiologist’s confidence in their interpretations.
