Start-up Portfolio

Emory University has been fortunate to have a rich history in its start-up portfolio. The portoflio consists of 72 companies with 44 of those being Georgia based. These companies can are spread across pharma (31), devices (17), diagnostics (6), software (9) and other (9). Currently, there are 30 products that went to market from 20 different companies.

Other start-up facts:

  • 10 (14%) went public
  • 9 (13%) companies were merged or acquired
  • 53 (74%) are still active
  • more than 1,200 total workers were employed, at peak

As far as funding, Emory start-ups received more than:

  • $85 million in non-dilutive funding
  • $1 billion in private investment capital
  • $314 million in public investment capital
  • $13.5 billion from mergers & acquisitions
