Invention Disclosures

Emory researchers, clinicians, and personnel invent new things in the course of performing their work. They disclose these inventions to the Office of Technology Transfer (OTT). The graph, and companion tables, show the annual number of these Invention Disclosures received by OTT.

Technologies by Type

The Office of Technology Transfer manages new technologies disclosed by Emory researchers, clinicians, and personnel. This portfolio of technologies consists of new inventions disclosed each year as well as those disclosed in prior years that are still active. This graph, and companion tables, show the number and percentage of these technologies by type.

Invention Disclosures and Research Awards

The level of research activity drives the creation of new inventions. This graph, and companion table, show the total awards, by dollar amount, issued by our research sponsors annually, and the number of new inventions disclosed to OTT.

OTT Standard Data Request Disclosure

Below is a list of caveats to keep in mind related to data requests concerning technology transfer activity.

  • Department assignments are made at the time of disclosure to the best of OTT's knowledge for Emory faculty, staff, or student listed on the disclosure form. These technology assignments do not change over time.
  • Disclosures can be counted more than once. This is due to the one-to-many relationship between the data element and inventors. For example, one disclosure can have multiple inventors listed and each of those can be associated with a different department. Therefore, each department “count” would include that same disclosure. This type of data cannot be summed for totals.
