Agreements

OTT has collected quarterly and annual metrics that provide a clear view of our activities. We then visualized that data through accessible charts and tables. These charts and tables reveal how our work benefits OTT as well as our partners, faculty, and entrepreneurs.

License Agreements by Type

OTT markets inventions received from our faculty partners to industry. If successful, we enter into a license agreement with a company to develop and sell products based upon our patent and other intellectual property (IP) rights. This graph, and companion tables, show the number by type of license agreements that grant an exclusive, non-exclusive, or option rights to our inventions.

Other Agreements by Type

OTT negotiates a variety of agreement types with companies, sponsors, and research partners. This graph, and companion table, show the annual number of incoming and outgoing MTAs (material transfer agreements), RDAs (restricted disclosure agreements), and others (e.g., unfunded research collaboration agreements).

Time From Disclosure to License

At the time OTT receives new inventions from our faculty partners, many are very early stage and require additional development. This graph shows the lag time between inception of a new invention, and its intellectual property (IP) protection, development, and marketing efforts leading to a new license with a corporate partner. The number of agreements vs average time from invention disclosure to a successful license for just two types of technology (therapeutic and medical device) is depicted here.

OTT Standard Data Request Disclosure

Below is a list of caveats to keep in mind related to data requests concerning technology transfer activity.

  • Department assignments are made at the time of disclosure to the best of OTTs knowledge for Emory faculty, staff, or student listed on the disclosure form. These technology assignments do not change over time.
  • Agreements can be counted more than once. This is due to the one-to-many relationship between the data element and inventors. For example, one disclosure can have multiple inventors listed and each of those can be associated with a different department. Therefore, each department “count” would include that same disclosure. This type of data cannot be summed for totals.
  • Agreements will include only exclusive and non-exclusive agreements that are active, expired, or terminated.
